Thanks to Right to Information Act (RTI ) Members of Suprajaa, Federation of Associations of Ward 50 were able to easily collect from BMP some important documents pertaining to a specific order and were shocked to note that BMP had made false recording and billing to the tune of Rs.3,60,650.00. The work order was for Asphalting to Middle school road, Rama Iyengar road, S.B. road and its cross roads in Ward 50. The total value of the order was Rs. 10,67,808.00. However Rama Iyengar road was not asphalted at all and yet the Contract certificate dated 31.03.05 was prepared certifying that the measurements were taken and recorded on 31.03.05 and that the work was satisfactorily executed. Full payment was made to the contractor vide cheque no.037508 dated 10.07.05 for Rs. 9,28,240.00(after deducting for KST, IT, NSC etc.) The corresponding cost of asphalting Rama Iyengar road is Rs.3,60,650.00 Where is this money gone? Inspired by the recent appeal by Lokayukta to provide information, Suprajaa has submitted the documents to Lokayukta. This revelation has opened our eyes to check all the works that BMP undertakes in our ward using the RTI tool and this is one of the services Suprajaa can render to its community.
