 BMP Health Department - FAQ

Q: Whom should I compain to for the following grievances related to garbage?

  • Burning of garbage
  • Waste from household not collected
  • Waste not cleared from roadside dustbin
  • Streets not cleaned
  • Kalyana Mantaps, hotels, market areas, temples , apartment complexes, households etc. dumping garbage on the road
  • Any other complaint related to garbage clearance

A: You can contact the local Health Inspector of your ward. If your grievances are not redressed at the at the local level, you can contact the Mediacl Health Officer (MOH) of your range. You can also register your complaint at the BMP Control Room. The fastest course of action will probably result if you file a RTI Application.

Q: Which arethe infectious diseases? What measures does the BMP take to prevent and control them?

A: Cholera, Malaria, Dengue, Rabies, Whooping Cough, Tetanus, Diphtheria, Tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS etc. are infectious diseases. Immunisation, laboratory testing, treatment and health education are some of the measures that the BMP undertakes to prevent and control infectious diseases.

Q: What measures does the Heath Department undertake to control mosquito breeding?

A: The health department maintains a list of mosquito breeding areas in the city. Weekly spraying operations are carried out using Abate, Baytex and other chemcicals which have immensely helped in the control of mosquito breeding. Fogging operations are carried out when there is spread of epidemics such as Dengue or Japanese Encephalitis. All the wells, tanks and lakes are stocked with Gambusia fishes, which are larvivorous in nature.

Q: What are the measures that the BMP has undertaken to control the population of stray dogs?

A: The BMP has taken up a programme of animal birth control and vaccination of stray dogs with the help of NGOs. The stray dogs are caught, sterilised and relocated in the same areas. Rabid and terminally ill dogs are euthanised.

Q: If there is a problem of parthenium, mosquitoes, stray dogs, monkeys or cattle in my neighbourhood, whom should I contact?

A: You can contact the Mediacl Health Officer (MOH) of your range.

Q: What measures is the BMP taking to prevent the adulteration of food?

A: The BMP is implementing the provisions of the Prevention of Food Adulteration Act 1954 and Rules 1955.

Q: Whom should I complain to if I notice a shop or a hotel operating in unhygienic conditions?

A: You can complain to the Zonal Health Officer.

Q: Whom should I contact for the use of a hearse van for the removal of dead animals and for ambulance services?
