Who will be your corporator this time? How do you select your corporator? Do you select for the sake of voting although you do not find any candidate worthy of your vote, or skip voting and enjoy the holiday with your family? We have been facing this dilemma for decades during election time!

Statistics show that most of the educated people in the city skip voting as otherwise they have to reluctantly select the best of the bad lot of candidates in the fray! The result is, poor voter turnout, only 45 to 50% of the people exercise their voting rights, and those who do not vote are mostly the educated 50%!!

The same situation will continue if we, the responsible citizens/local NGOs do not make up our mind and endeavor to identify suitable independent candidates who are honest, service minded and committed to work for the well being of their Wards, and persuade them to contest.

Our chosen candidates will have very good chance of winning the election with the NGO’s support. The logic is, each ward has about 30% slum voters and 98% of them vote (at least on records) The rest 20 % are the educated people who have party affinities. We bank on the other 50% of electorates who do not cast their votes because they have no one to select from the list. All that we need to do is, persuade them to vote in the coming election.

Bangalore is growing at an unprecedented speed in a haphazard manner. Encroachers are having a field day, thanks to corrupt elements in the City Corporation. Civic amenities are anything but satisfactory, clogged water and sewage drains, bad roads and footpaths, stinking garbage allover, and our grievances are plenty, tax payers money is simply going down the DRAIN.

It is time citizens become more responsible and demand good governance from the bureaucrats and the corporators. As a first step let us have our own honest, sincere, hard working Corporator.
